Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Some people experience inappropriate sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the arm pits. Medication is often ineffective, but Botox® blocks the nerves to sweat glands, and is very effective in reducing sweating and odour for many months. Before using Botox for this purpose one needs to ensure that medical causes of sweating have been excluded. eg. Over-active thyroid.

How is Botox given?

By injecting the sweat gland sites. It is more easily administered if the armpits are shaved approximately one week prior to injection.

Do the injections hurt?

Because the needles are so fine and the quantity of Botox so small, the discomfort is minimal.

How long will it last ?

This varies from person to person, but can last up to 9 months.

Are there any side- effects?

Botox is not harmful. There may be some localised bruising following the injections or slight swelling, but this will quickly wear off. Our medical staff will discuss the use of Botox in detail before any treatment is given.

How will I feel afterwards?

Self-assured and confident without the embarrassment often experienced in social situations.
